Harriet Unger is the Executive Producer for National Programming and UConn Women’s Basketball for Connecticut Public Television. In her thirty one years at CPTV, Ms. Unger has established herself as an accomplished producer/director with many credits to her name. She has been the producer of nationally distributed public television fundraising specials including, Celia Cruz and Friends: A Night of Salsa; Bobby Vinton Live: Songs From My Heart; The British Invasion Returns; Hey La Hey La: The Girl Groups are Back!; Picture This Weight Loss with Dr. Howard Shapiro; Daniel Pink: Living on the Right Side of the Brain, and two specials with renowned skin care physician Dr. Adrienne Denese. As Executive Producer she has overseen numerous national pledge productions including Chronic Pain Relief with Dr. James Dillard; Dare to Repair; Happiness 101 with Tal Ben-Shahar; and most recently RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles, whose promoters have hired her to represent the national tour to public television stations. In addition to RAIN she has promoted the Blue Man Group tour and currently represents The Vienna Boys’ Choir: Songs Along The Road and Time, The Red Hot Chilli Pipers: Blast, and the upcoming Apassionata.
For the last ten years, Ms. Unger has served as the Executive Producer for UConn Women’s Basketball, the most successful local initiative in the history of public television. She has been involved in the program since the first game on March 4, 1994. In her role as Executive Producer, she oversees all elements of production, produces and directs The Geno Auriemma Show, acts as the liaison between the University of Connecticut and Connecticut Public Television and oversees the fundraising efforts in support of the broadcasts.
Ms. Unger is also an accomplished director of local productions and for the last twenty years, she has served as the director of The Connecticut Forum at Hartford’s historic Bushnell Theater.
Ms Unger has been widely recognized for her work, including winning an Emmy in the Outstanding Entertainment Special category as producer of The News in Revue, a nationally distributed comedy special. She has received several regional Emmy nominations for programming including UConn Women’s Basketball programming and documentaries, A Focus on Race Relations, and Mood and Mental Health in America. She received an Associated Press Award for UConn Women’s Basketball.
